As the year comes to a close, you can’t help but look out for the releases just around the corner. Alongside some All-Star standouts, Chinese New Year is to deliver a decent handful of eclectic offerings, including the now officially revealed Nike SB Dunk Low “Street Hawker.”

Opening 2021 first thing this January, the Dunk effectively celebrates the “bonding effect” that food culture has in China through a loud “What The” styled colorway. Jason Deng, the Guangzhou artist behind the design, emulates this through a watercolor medium, one that effectively bridges six different regional dishes from six different cities.

Starting with the left shoe, a lighter beige is used to mirror that of three flour-based dishes, while the green suede of its toes liken to Douzhi, a green bean soup from Beijing. Donut patterns mark atop at the overlays, the lateral appears near exactly like pita bread, and watercolor patterns remind of mutton soup. Further use of graphics behind draw from Shanghai noodles and blue skies, both accented adjacent by chopstick swooshes and an insole luxurious in its porcelain motifs.

The right shoe is equally packed with details, the metallic color the most instantly noticeable as it simulates Chengdu hotpots. Boiling chili oil heats up the toe box, lateral-placed ostrich leathers seem like crispy roasted goose skin, and the Swoosh nods to the metal hooks that hang said birds in butcher shops. Flames and lychee wood cook the aforementioned by way of the eyelets, shaved ice and taro balls entice the sweet tooth at the heel counter, and the insole paints a picturesque landscape on a bench terrace. Meat-colored linings and cooking oil outsoles then finish the already lengthy shopping list.

Rounded of with calligraphy and four different season-inspired laces, the Nike SB Dunk Low “Street Hawker” will be available on Nike SNKRS come January 13th.

UPDATE 12/22/2020:
