The New Future collection is unveiled.

These Are Not Your Average Vans Old Skools

It’s not often that sneaker brands give collaborators this level of creative freedom. In a new Premium Old Skool collection dubbed “New Future,” Vans has linked with four athletes – three skaters and a surfer – on total reimaginations of the SoCal imprint’s most iconic silhouette.

We begin on July 17th with a pair by 16-year-old Japanese skateboarder Cocona Hiraki. Here we have a predominantly white and green colorway featuring corduroy material, black contrast stitching on the Sidestripes, and a removable friendship bracelet with charms inspired by Cocona’s Japanese heritage.

Then come two releases on September 4th, one by surfer Karina Rozunko and another by Tania Cruz. Rozunko’s pair drops the Old Skool’s traditional lacing in favor of a cover with hefty metal pieces, and the midsole is given some serious bulk with an added rubber toe guard. Meanwhile, Cruz distinguishes her collab with an edgy black colorway that gradually fades to red with wear.

The fourth and final member of the “New Future” collection lands September 10th, and it’s arguably the most ambitious of the bunch. Efron Danzig checks in with an all-new heeled sole unit, full grain leather upper, and metal buckles in lieu of laces.

No pricing info for the Vans Premium Old Skool “New Future” collection has been announced yet, but it’s likely all four pairs will go for $100+. Scroll through the official image gallery below before deciding whether to buy.
