This Plush Nike Air Rift Is Inspired By Harajuku Fashion

We’ll save our dissertation on the fall of the monoculture for a different time. However, you can see the varied pockets of pop culture on display even within a brand as massive as Nike, having paid homage to disparate groups like the gamers and horror fans in the past year and change. On the more fashionable end of things, Nike has their next demographic chosen for a budding collection, now adding a Nike Air Rift that pulls from maximalist, cutesy Harajuku aesthetics.

Nike’s ballet-inspired silhouette now joins a similarly coated LD-1000 in this Japanese-inspired capsule. The insoles confirm that single-handedly, bearing the same eclectic, colorful patterning from the Waffle-treaded predecessor. While the pair at hand is a bit simpler in terms of color, its charmed appearance with chrome buckles and a sized-up star on the midfoot strap and plush fur exteriors does well to carry Kawaii hallmarks onto a model with far less real estate to play with. A dose of off-white in the section tread below closes out the shoe proper, but the Harajuku motif continues onto the shoebox, ensuring that you can spot its attitude even on the shelf.

Be ready for the Nike Air Rift “Harajuku” to hit shelves sometime in the coming weeks, likely commanding a premium on the Rift’s usual $135 sticker price.
