The estate of La Ville Bague |
|
 |
The estate of La Ville
Bague was was built by the Eon de Penfentenio
family, a family of wealthy St Malo traders
who had opened several trading posts abroad.
The current malouinière was built in 1715 by
Guillaume Eon on the site of a more modest
manor.
Built out of local roughcast stone, the
Ville Bague shows all the characteristics of
the malouinières: the central dwelling with
2 side wings slightly set back presents 7
bays: the chains of angle, the framings of
windows and doors are made of granite; the
remarkable roof is decorated with finials
and topped by huge chimneys. |
Under the Restoration, the “Eon” family had
a panoramic wall paper, one can still
admire, put up in the large drawing room. A
creation of the “Dufour et Leroy” workshop,
this panoramic view represents the arrival
of Pizarro and his conquistadores in Peru.
More than 1,500 carved wood boards were
needed to print it.
The estate surrounded by walls also includes
a square pigeon house dated from 1660. Only
its highest section is for the pigeons since
it is also used as an orangery.
The Sainte Sophie Chapel, also dated from
1660, completes the estate. It is a “ half
enclosed “chapel with a private door opening
on to the park and a public door opening
North.
