While Kanye West titled his latest effort ‘Yeezy Season Two,’ it very well could have been called Part 2. Indeed, this was a clear continuation of last fall’s starting point, right down to neutral foundation garments, military fatigue pieces and footwear too.
Let’s talk shoes: while West repeated an updated version of his lug-sole all-weather boot (offered in white, taupe and black) and also the original Yeezy Boost 750 gray suede high-top sneaker, his newest footwear ideas included an all-clear acrylic mule (seen on wife Kim Kardashian in the front row) and a stretch legging open-toe over-the-knee boot (also seen on Kardashian during a recent outing). While the former see-through styles are certainly in line with his collection dictum of seamless construction and unbroken lines, the boots were more successful, combining an athletic spandex construction with a clean and cool new shape. And with a three-inch block heel, they had just enough boost.
The buzz that surrounded the show (and will undoubtedly surround these pieces once they drop in store and online) was also high octane. West clearly has an eye for footwear and knows how to distill his vision into shoes that people want. Lots of people, globally, who are willing to sign up and shell out whatever it takes to get their Instagram-ready hands on them. For the sake of the industry (and Adidas bottom line) let’s hope he continues to keep the hits coming. For the finale, a new track played, which the crowd immediately began to bop to and record or Shazam. If they can’t get the shoes just yet, they’ll settle for a thumping Kanye song.
