Emmy award-winning dancer and choreographer Derek Hough is getting his own shoe.
Hough, who has won the hit TV series “Dancing with the Stars” a record-breaking six times, naturally looked to the world of dance for his foray into shoes.
Launching on Thursday, Hough will introduce two exclusive dance sneaker styles with Miami-based dance and lifestyle footwear brand Fuego.
Included in the release is the Derek Hough x Fuego Low-Top Dance Sneaker. The footwear company describes the style as a “sleek and stylish sneaker that fuses dancewear and streetwear, offering superior comfort and versatility without sacrificing performance.”
Next is the Derek Hough x Fuego Split-Sole Dance Sneaker, which is a technical, high-performance shoe designed for dancers “who require maximum flexibility and control on the dance floor.”
According to Hough, he was “super hands-on” throughout the design process.
“I’ve spent my life moving and performing, so I know how crucial the right footwear is – not just for performance, but for protecting your body especially your knees while practicing and helping you feel confident when you move,” Hough told FN in an exclusive interview ahead of the launch. “I worked closely with the team to make sure every detail – from the fit to the functionality – reflected what dancers need.”
Hough noted that, for him, the shoe’s support and flexibility attributes were the most important elements of the design. “I wanted the shoes to move with you — not against you — so we focused on lightweight materials, cushioned insoles, and details that allow for both stability and freedom,” he said. “For the split-sole especially, it was all about maximizing control and range of motion. And of course, they had to look good too.”
The star dancer added that seeing the final product of his designs was his “favorite” part of the project. “It was such a proud moment,” he admitted. “There’s something really rewarding about taking an idea, putting in the work, seeing people wear the shoes, move in it and react in a way of genuine joy, feeling how it improves and supports their movement.”
As for if these shoes are “Dancing with the Stars” approved, Hough said “absolutely.”
“These are shoes I would wear myself during rehearsals, performances, or even just on the go,” he said. “We tested and refined them with movement in mind, and I’m confident dancers at every level will feel the difference. I can’t wait for everyone to try them out!”
The Derek Hough x Fuego sneaker collection, with both styles retailing for $180, is now available to shop on Fuego’s website.
