Jovani Hernandez Teased by Joe Freshgoods at the tail-end of February, the New Balance “Conversations Amongst Us” collection debuts tomorrow, April 15th, with a 550 and 2002R.
Rooted in verbal and non-verbal communication between members of the Black community, the footwear and apparel capsule has been at least two years in the works between Joseph Robinson, a group of Black associates at New Balance and the Boston-based institution. Both inaugural sneakers in the “Conversations Amongst Us” lineup don off-white ensembles that commemorate the wear-and-tear that comes about from a life lived. The New Balance 550 has quickly garnered attention from savvy and casual consumers alike, as its clean canvas arrangement delivers one of the model’s most versatile styles as of late. The accompanying New Balance 2002R has been touted by fans of the unshakeable “dad shoe” trend, though the mid-2000s model doesn’t currently boast the same level of hype as the Steven Smith-designed 550. Nevertheless, both shoes are two of 12 footwear options prepped for the “Conversations Amongst Us” collection, which is referenced across each pairs’ sock-liners and spines. The debut duo is as fresh as a white t-shirt in the summer, while simultaneously demonstrating that “battle scars” can be worn proudly.
