The following article was published in March of 2023:

Of his initial iconic 13 silhouettes, Michael Jordan’s ninth signature model is dressed up in seldom, recently complimenting its iconic color blockings with reinvigorated efforts. Debuted in 1994 on par with his brand’s recurring homage to Chapel Hill, the Air Jordan 9 “Powder Blue” is now expected to return in its exact specifications for 2024.

14 years after its initial retro release, the Tinker Hatfield design returns without a trace of the pre-aged aesthetics that have recently been applied to the Air Jordan 1 “Lost and Found” and upcoming Air Jordan 3 “Reimagined. Clad in its upper’s crisp white assemblage, stark jet-black contrasts align in opposition along the tongue construction, sock liner and pull tab before amplifying the sole unit’s Jumpman amongst a colorless backdrop. Rendering its staple swatches of “University Blue” along the midsole and tongue branding, the 30th-anniversary celebration will return without the embroidered #23 logo that graced the 2010 retro version across the heel.

While we await the pair’s specific release date in 2024, enjoy a first look at the Air Jordan 9 “Powder Blue” in the meantime.

For more under the Jumpman umbrella, check out upcoming Air Jordan 11 “Gratitude” set to drop in December.
