At 26 years old, Kylian Mbappe is on a potential G.O.A.T. trajectory. Already a FIFA World Cup champion and winner of multiple Ligue 1 titles with Paris Saint-Germain, the French footballer has been an integral part of the fabric at Nike for nearly a decade. Now looking back at Mbappe’s tenure with the Swoosh, Nike is releasing a “Grand Purple” collection inspired by his player edition Mercurial cleats over the years.
Fittingly, five models feature a design inspired by Mbappe’s five previous Mercurial PEs. Taken with the same theme, gold-lined logos over the heel can be traced back to the athlete’s inaugural “Rising Fire” player edition boot. Additional graphics recall his 2022 “Roots” model, while the lateral Swoosh tributes his hometown and 2019 “Bondy Dreams” boot. The 2020 “Rose” model is evoked by a medial Swoosh made to look like a lightning bolt, while an inset flame graphic ties in with the 2021 “Flames” capsule.
Stretching across the entire Mercurial lineup, all five models are scheduled to release April 14th via nike.com. Scroll through official images below and visit our Sneaker Release Dates page to preview more upcoming Nike deliveries.
In related news, the Nike Mercurial SuperFly 10 is releasing in a new colorway reminiscent of the iconic “Neon” Air Max 95.
