Original article published April 25, 2025; South Korean streetwear/casual lifestyle label thisisneverthat first caught our attention in the sneaker universe with their New Balance collaboration back in 2019, bringing a blend of military surplus and gorpcore to the 997 model through their “Physical Fitness Uniform” concept. Since then, they’ve nearly run the table on NB silhouettes, working on the New Balance 1000, 550, 2002R, 827, and 860v2 in recent years, building out a strong portfolio and representing a country not typically known for shoe collabs.
They’re turning their attention to the cherished New Balance 991v2 silo, which means this is their highest priced sneaker release to date. Applying a two-toned aesthetic in drab hues, thisisneverthat keeps it pleasantly simple by driving home earth tones. Branding refers to the oval on the heel, where a brand abbreviation of TNT appears in place of the 991v2 customary placement.
While New Balance has yet to make an announcement on the project, is currently marked for May 9th at global New Balance retailers. An earlier launch could be executed exclusively through thisisneverthat’s channels prior to that date.
