“Slim Shady” may be dead as of Eminem’s last album cycle, but his legacy in footwear is already immortal. While most will easily recognize his 2000s work on the Air Jordan 4 and Air Jordan 2, still among some of the most coveted Jordans ever crafted, the Detroit legend minted a new chapter during his appearance at the Super Bowl halftime show in 2022. Some three years later, that Eminem Air Jordan 3 has fallen into the hands of collectors’ collective English Sole, providing an incredibly detailed look.
While clearly a riff on the storied “Fire Red,” the Eminem Air Jordan 3 becomes a legendary shoe in its finer details, sporting a variety of Em-centric hits in the place of the usual Jordan iconography. Begin with the alternating logos on the tongue, swapping between the usual Jumpman and the backward E that’s been a Marshall Mathers trademark since… well, the Marshall Mathers LP. Fitting given the Super Bowl halftime show’s career retrospective, he throws back to his debut with the “Hi My Name Is” backtabs, while the tongue interiors harken to his record exec career, sporting “Shady Records” spell-out text on the left shoe and its Jason Mask emblem on the right.
As one astute commenter points out on English Sole’s posting, a rearview reveals mean that this isn’t the exact shoe worn during the Halftime show — that in-action pair had mismatched black and white heel tabs, while this shoe has joined counterparts in black. With Sole confirming that two versions were made, wearing black and white respectively, the iconic MC likely split the difference between each variation for the California showcase.
