In surprising but perhaps not shocking news, Nike is dipping back into the well of the Panda Dunk, with two animalistic colorways that frontline the actual ursine on hangtags and various branding hits. While those initial looks were easy to parse given they drew inspiration from existing fauna, it would appear that the Swoosh is ditching any grounded ties, now dropping abstract special edition arrangements in the “Green Panda” Dunk and “Purple Panda” Dunk featured here.
On top of the overly chilled-out panda face that dots the tongue and hangtag, a uniting theme across this “collection” has been flashy, unconventional leather finishes, executed well with the glistening varnish that defines the overlays. Bright violet raw leather edges peer out around them, something that pairs well with the marled laces that almost remind us of the ones used on 1985 Air Jordan 1 releases. In case what they were trying to accomplish isn’t abundantly clear by this point, Nike debuts a new Dunk shoebox with this “Purple Panda” colorway, taking a black and white split no doubt inspired by the indomitable pandemic pair.
The Nike Dunk Low “Purple Panda” should be landing sometime in the near future, likely carrying a $120 MSRP.
