The 2024-25 college basketball circuit was huge for Jordan PEs, with the Jumpman shipping off “First Class” Jordan 4s to all its sponsored schools. While Mach Madness is well in the rear-view mirror at this point, we’re still unpacking Air Jordan goodies provided to players last season. Rare sneaker seller @englishsole recently shared a pair created for the North Carolina Tar Heels; a fresh Air Jordan 9 “UNC” PE.
One of just 50 pairs in existence, the sneaker balances between white, “University Blue,” and “Obsidian” treatments. The “University Blue” shade appears via a patent leather mudguard/heel, while “Obsidian” makes notable cameos on the midsole, lining, and heel “23” stitching. The Air Jordan 9 has embraced a handful of UNC-adjacent colorways throughout its history, most notably a “Pearl Blue” low-top in 2002 (which returned as a high in 2019). Additionally, while more of a stretch, the model’s original “Powder Blue” colorway boasts more vague UNC ties.
To state the obvious; the Air Jordan 9 “UNC” PE is for players only and won’t see a public release. Hit our Jordan Release Dates page to preview pairs you can actually get your hands on, including the “Flint Grey” 9s dropping in 2026.
