Maybe Ja Morant and the Kool-Aid Man aren’t too different after all, evidently a conclusion that the Swoosh and the beloved beverage brand reached on the way to minting a multi-step partnership. With the “Mixed Berry” now off the board, we turn our edition to the second of two, the Nike Ja 2 “Tropical Punch.”
Unveiled with Kool-Aid’s official announcement of the partnership, the “Tropical Punch” Ja 2 breaks from the mismatched concept seen on its predecessor. It’d be a return to traditional aesthetics for nearly every silhouette except Morant’s, seeing as alternating colorways are a consistent through-line in his work.
What it may lack in left-to-right contrast, it more than makes up for in fruity bonafides. Light blue appears with the underfoot traction and select speckles in the midsole and upper, while the warmer side of the color wheel imbues the front of the shoe with a neon red before swapping over to bright pink at the rear. For some final trademark flair, the Kool-Aid Man tucks his dented wall backdrop behind the Swoosh and leaves behind a grid of embossed condensation on the overlays.
