ASICS Launches The Signature Series Program With Cecilie Bahnsen

As sneaker brands and outside collaborators strengthen their relationship, a tight needle to thread often presents itself: the balance between consumers knowing what to expect and keeping them on their toes. While the Cecilie Bahnsen catalog with ASICS is easily identifiable for its heavy reliance on floral motifs, the Danish designer has done an admirable job of adapting that theme and keeping the energy fresh, delivered anew with her latest on the ASICS GEL-Cumulus 16.

The foremost method that Bahnsen has taken to keep her ironclad partnership with the Japanese brand interesting has been jumping from model to model, only technically doubling back once with her ASICS GEL-Terrain MT, though the hiking tooling could reasonably be argued as a novel step.

Nonetheless, that trend continues as she chalks off the GEL-Cumulus 16, reviving a 2014 neutral runner adding graphic vines and flowers between its synthetic base and new glossy overlays. Each of those hardware notes is an execution of the femininity vs. masculinity theme at the center of this shoe, the latter further explored with an outdoorsy pull closure. Of the three colorways on offer, two in “”Glacier Grey” and black execute fitting trendy aesthetics, while the “Ivory/Black” option lands with a more adventurous overall palette.

Notably, this stands as the first release under the newly minted “Signature Series” collaborative banner for ASICS, said to offer “different design visionaries to apply their signature style to key seasonal models.” At least to our ears, the announcement has us expecting more GEL-CUMULUS 16 releases in the coming season, likely with additional collaborators pulled into the mix.

The Cecilie Bahnsen x ASICS GEL-Cumulus 16 checks in as one of their more price-conscious capsules to date, commanding a $170 retail price a piece. The capsule is expected out on July 11th — catch official images below and watch our Sneaker Release Dates page for a full store list as the launch draws closer.
