Seven Different Retailers Collaborated On This Returning ASICS Model

We come across three-way collaborations from time to time, but seven ways? Yup, you read that correctly. In shining a light on a returning model, ASICS has teamed up with seven of its most esteemed US retail partners for a collaboration that’s as unique as they come (at least on paper).

The model in question is the ASICS GEL-Cumulus 16; an early 2010s Sportstyle cut akin to the GEL-1130, GEL-Kayano 14 … you get the gist. ASICS is planning to re-introduce the model to its mainline spread shortly, and also has a Cecilie Bahnsen collaboration launching in July. This seven-way link-up is called the “Tomo” colorway, which is the name of the pinnacle tier of ASICS’ retail partners (basically the equivalent to Nike’s Tier Zero). The seven retailers that played a role are Extra Butter, CNCPTS, The Whitaker Group, Feature, Sneaker Politics, Lapstone & Hammer, and Somewhere DC.

Given the unprecedented amount of names attached to this sneaker, you might expect some sort of overbearing “What The” design with clear influence from each retailer. Instead, these are actually fairly low-key. An aquatic green, teal, and purple gradient appears on the side overlays, complemented by green/purple GEL cushioning underfoot. Metallic silver underlays are paired with white mesh, while cream hits on the laces and midsole round out the delivery.

The ASICS GEL-Cumulus 16 “Tomo” doesn’t have a release date yet, but we’ll update this article as soon as that changes. For now, enjoy detailed images below.
