The Conference Championship round of the NFL playoffs had something for all fans: highlight reel-worthy plays, one game coming down to the wire and one game ending in the blowout. With the round over, football fans can debate for the next two weeks who will win Super Bowl 50: the Carolina Panthers or the Denver Broncos.
But for people more concerned with the cleats they are wearing on the field versus the games or who won, there was plenty to look at.
Panthers’ outgoing star quarterback Cam Newton, an Under Armour-sponsored athlete, warmed up in a pair of cleats that received a lot of attention. The custom footwear featured all the names of his Carolina teammates, the players that contributed to the 17-1 season and a trip to the Super Bowl. The cleats were dressed in the Panthers’ colors of white and blue, and featured the names throughout the shoe’s upper. Newton’s 335 passing yards on 19-for-28 passing and 2 touchdowns helped the Panthers blow out the Cardinals, 49-15.
Legendary Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning, who has been struggling as of late, led his team to an upset win over Tom Brady and the favored New England Patriots, 20-18. Manning hit the gridiron in a pair of cleats he’s familiar with, the Nike Code Pro 3/4. The quarterback was 17-for-32 passing, throwing for 176 yards and 2 touchdowns.
The Panthers and Broncos will meet in Super Bowl 50 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. on Feb. 7.
