Kendrick Lamar Dresses in All Black With Asics Gel Kayano Sneakers for Super Bowl Press Conference
Fresh off of sweeping the Grammy awards in a Canadian tuxedo, Kendrick Lamar is readying for the Super Bowl. The “Not Like Us” rapper did a press conference and pre-game of sorts for the event, for which he will serve as halftime performer, on Thursday morning. For the event Lamar chose to dress “in all black like the omen” as one famous Lil Kim bar once remarked — or like a funeral as some fans might joke given Lamar’s recent feud with the famed Canadian rapper Drake.
Lamar, who recently collaborated with the New York based designer Willy Chavarria on a Super Bowl capsule collection, wore a baggy black coat, black baggy jeans, a black beanie and black square frame sunglasses.

For shoes, Lamar chose sneakers. In particular he wore the Asics X Unaffected Gel-Kayano 20 sneakers. The shoes were first released in 2024 as a part of a three-piece collaboration. The sneaker is partially sheer with a dark gray mesh upper. In addition, there’s a transparent mudgard on the back. The midsole notably includes the gel cushioning. The Asics branding includes silver, reflective aspects.
Unaffected is a South Korean brand that had previously worked with Asics. They first released the Gel-Kayano 14 in 2023. The 20 had originally been released in three color ways: Black Obsidian (which Lamar wore) White Glacier and Umber Mud.
Other brands like Kenzo have previously iterated on the Gel-Kayano 20. Those were introduced in January 2024. That project was followed by a version with Doublet and another with Bodega. The original Asics Gel-Kayano 20 sneaker was launched in 2013.
