Queen Mary of Denmark Goes Comfy in T-Strap Sandals at the 2024 Paris Olympics

Queen Mary of Denmark wore a pair of flat strappy sandals while attending the night swimming session at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
Comfortable footwear has been the ongoing trend at the Olympics thus far, as attending the event often involves a lot of walking. The Queen’s shoes were defined by a horizontal dark blue denim strap that extended across her mid-foot. The strap connected to a matching vertical strap, which itself extended into an additional denim buckle strap that wrapped around her ankle. The royal paired her shoes with a flowing dark blue midi skirt that included a white spotted design. Tucked into her skirt was a simple but elegant white long-sleeve blouse, which she accessorized with gold bangles. Letting her hair hang loose, she kept her makeup simple for the occasion.
Strappy sandals come in many variations, including flats and heels. The footwear style that has been around for decades, the inception of which dates back to the early twentieth century. Open-toe, closed-toe and peep-toe designs are some of the forms the shoe comes in, with the style being praised for its versatility and ability to work well with a variety of outfits. Many brands including Stuart Weitzman, Chanel, Gucci and more, have offered multiple iterations of the strappy sandal over the decades.

The look was also a departure from Queen Mary’s usual pumps of choice. Last year, she attended the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla at Westminster Abbey in London wearing a pair of purple Gianvito Rossi pumps that were crafted in suede. The pumps featured a towering stiletto heel that reached roughly 4 inches in height, and were emphasized by its sharp pointed-toe construction.
She has previously worn pumps to major events such as the European Film Awards in Copenhagen, the Bambi Awards, the Royal Ascot and more, preferring the likes of Rossi and Chanel within her footwear lineup.
The 2024 Paris Olympics began on July 26, and will run through August 11.
