Winona Ryder gave major grunge vibes for her appearance at the “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” photocall today in New York. The press tour for the upcoming film began earlier this week.
The “Heathers” actress took a page from her teen years, swapping out formal footwear for a pair of chunky black booties. The rugged style featured glossy black leather uppers that transitioned into rounded toes, zipper detailing up the front and thick, almost platform-esque rubber tread. The rubber soles offered a utilitarian non-slip feel while the zipper closures furthered the grunge aspect, creating dimension. The style is likely ankle length.
Similar silhouettes to Ryder’s own can be purchased from beloved brands like The Row, Steve Madden, Free People and Dr. Martens, among others. While the style is primarily saved for the colder months, wearing chunky black leather ankle boots with daintier warm-weather pieces can create a welcomed contrast.
Channeling her inner Lydia Deetz, Ryder wore a black maxi-length dress fixed with a high neckline, long sleeves and white button closures. The look is gothic and quirky, on par with the actress’ past fashion picks.
Ryder’s style is undeniably grunge, harkening back to her all-black looks as a teen in the ’80s and ’90s accompanied by footwear ranging from low-top Converse to Western-inspired boots. Today, Ryder’s monochrome streak has continued; however, she’s switched out her casual footwear picks for pointed-toe pumps and heeled loafers featuring sheer and PVC, leather and satin uppers hailing from top brands including Christian Louboutin and Marc Jacobs.
“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” the highly anticipated sequel to the cult classic, promises to bring a fresh twist to the beloved story. With Jenna Ortega taking on a leading role, fans can expect a thrilling mix of humor, fantasy, and gothic charm. The film is set for release on Sept. 2024.
