Exclusive: Kristopher Brock Talks Inspiration Behind New Tecovas Women’s Boot and Apparel Collaboration

Tecovas is teaming up with a fellow Texan: Kristopher Brock.

The Western boot brand, based out of Austin, partnered with Brock, who grew up in Corpus Christi. The two created a capsule collection featuring three women’s boot styles as well as a women’s apparel line, with Tecovas’ first dress collection.

Western heritage has always been very impactful in my design aesthetic,” Brock said to FN. “And so naturally, aesthetically, I was drawn to [Tecovas], but then just kind of what they were doing as pioneers in the space, from a D2C cowboy boot company. It’s such a great product at such a phenomenal price point.”

The collection features three new takes on Tecovas’ popular women’s boot styles as well as 10 apparel pieces. The RTW line includes 8 dresses, one top and a headscarf. Dainty florals and classic Western styles can be seen throughout the capsule. Soft shades of cream, light blue, olive green and more cover the apparel pieces, and romantic, feminine styles of corsets, embroidery, printed eyelets and more contrast against the boots of the collection.

Brock worked with Tecovas’ team to bring new designs to the iconic boot styles as well. He covered the Abby boot in a dark green crocodile leather with floral embroidered detailing. He also took a spin on the Annie, covering it in a red suede with dainty floral inlays, as well as the Sadie, this time in a soft tan leather with cream colored cutout designs.

While Tecovas has been offering Western boots and shoes, as well as men’s and women’s apparel to its customers, the latest collaboration brings women’s dresses to the brand for the first time

“The intention was to expand the appeal of the Tecovas women’s apparel line and offer an assortment that was unmistakably feminine without compromising on the quality that we’re known for as a brand,” Elizabeth Ruiz, Tecovas’ senior footwear designer, said to FN. “With that in mind, partnering with Kris was a no-brainer. We think of all our product categories through the lens of how will this look styled with our boots.”

“When I do a partnership like this, I like to think of what’s important for them, their customer, her needs, and kind of what the balance of what we both want to get out of it,” Brock said. “And so I guess the inspiration for it was really well made products at a great price point. And then from there, just something really beautiful and easy and fun. Effortless, I think is a great word.”

Brock made his mark in the industry by creating Brock Collection with former wife Laura Vassar. The brand was founded in 2014 and won the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award in 2016. The luxury womenswear became known for its floral, feminine and ethereal designs through its RTW collections and collaborations. While the brand remains inactive, Brock is still bringing some of the inspiration behind his first company into this collection.

“Brock Collection was my baby for a very long time,” Brock said. “A lot of my personal aesthetic is Brock, and so naturally, that’s been a crossover. I think, naturally, my design aesthetic will always somewhat stay in that, but hope to evolve it.”

The full collection will be available on tecovas.com on September 21. Prices range from $150 to $995.
