Will we soon be seeing Hollywood starlets walk the red carpets in — gasp — flats? That was the message at Giorgio Armani’s spring ’16 couture collection for Armani Privé, which featured evening ballet flats paired with crystal-encrusted hosiery.
The designer has been dressing stars on the red carpet for years now, and this season saw Armani favoring a more casual form of dress. The latest collection, presented entirely in a mauve color scheme, saw dramatic gowns as well as glitzy daywear that could easily transition to evening.
Mid-calf leather boots were finished in the same thematic mauve and and had short, curved block heels. Evening ballet flats had a silk ribbon ankle-tie, and were dazzling when paired with transparent bejeweled socks.
Matte leather loafers, or simple white flats with a PVC panel, were also paired with the glitzy socks here. Compared to the often-ornate shoes of couture season, the focus on hosiery was surprisingly fresh. What’s couture without a dash of impracticality?
