Cam Newton often makes headlines for reasons aside from his play on the field, most recently for the Christmas-inspired Under Armour cleats he wore during warmups on Sunday. But the Carolina Panthers quarterback is performing at an MVP-caliber level — the fifth-year star has led his team to a league-best 14-0 record.
Newton and the Panthers hit the road on Sunday, holding on to beat the New York Giants 38-35. The quarterback hit the Metlife Stadium field in predominantly blue high-cut Under Armour cleats with black and gray highlights. Before the game, Newton warmed up in the same style of cleat, adorned in red and green tones with white highlights.
The quarterback was 25-for-45 passing yesterday, throwing for 340 yards and five touchdowns. Newton also led all Carolina rushers Sunday, running for 100 yards on eight carries, including a 47-yard run in the first quarter. Although Newton isn’t the team’s leading rusher, with running back Jonathan Stewart rushing for 989 yards on 242 attempts so far for the season, Newton is second, with 580 yards on 119 attempts, averaging 4.9 yards per carry.
Newton and the Panthers will hit the road again Sunday to face its struggling division foe, the Atlanta Falcons.
