Leopard. Cheetah. Cow. Dalmatian?
Adidas is continuing to add animal prints to its classic shoes, this time via an official collaboration with Disney on a “101 Dalmatians” Samba sneaker. No panel was spared on this pair, as Adidas went all-in on the canine inspiration to create a Samba inspired by the spotted dogs. Specifically, the upcoming 101 Dalmatians x Adidas Samba is inspired by Penny, one of the original and most memorable puppies of the iconic Disney franchise.
From a glance, the 101 Dalmatians x Adidas Samba may appear to be a normal black-and-white version of the classic sneaker, but a closer look reveals the Dalmatian details. The sneaker’s white leather upper has been given a puckered texture which resembles dog hair while the lateral and medial Three Stripes branding features a faux pony hair.
On the heel and tongue label, a white suede material has been printed with erratic spotting to mirror the look of Penny and her companions. And in case there’s any doubt over the inspiration, a Disney-branded graphic of Penny is featured near the back of the shoe, and a gold 101 Dalmatians medallion hangs from the heel tab. Elsewhere, the tongue is colored navy and features the same textured leather look as the sneaker’s white panels and co-branded insole completes the collaboration.
Disney and Adidas have been collaborators for years and primarily focus on kid’s product, but have also issued adult-sized sneakers from franchises such as “Star Wars.” Most recently, the two brands released a “Toy Story”-themed Samba sneaker.
The upcoming 101 Dalmatians x Adidas Samba “Penny” collaboration has a full colorway of “Cloud White/Core Black/Gold Metallic” and its SKU is KJ5990. A retail price of $120 is expected when the sneaker arrives at retailers later this summer.
