MM6 Maison Margiela and Salomon Team on Third Collaborative Sneaker Collection
MM6 Maison Margiela and Salomon have launched their third collaboration, which sees the official release of the X-Alp in two different colorways: black and almond milk.
Honing in on what both brands describe as a “celebration of a shared ethos offering unconventional perspectives on progressive and technically advanced designs,” this release is a part of the MM6 Maison Margiela spring 2024 collection, and refreshed with the branding style and schematics of the MM6 design studio.
The protective and functional hiking shoe comes reimagined in an all-black shade alongside a creamy almond milk shade, centering in on technical details that focus on the shoe’s cool aerodynamic shape. A historic model inspired by technical footwear and aimed at shining a light on Salomon’s mountaineering history, both colorways feature a leather and textile upper, along with textile lining dispersed throughout the shoe.

A chunky rubber outsole designed with durability and traction in mind rounds out the silhouette, which is finished by a regular lacing system. The model blends protective details and functional cues to alpinism with a premium material composition and fine detailing. Both colors also feature contrasting details that add the sartorial sharpness of couture to Salomon’s mountaineering heritage.
What’s more, the MM6 numeric signature logo unexpectedly crops up on the shoe’s tongue, which per the brand, an artisanal hallmark to complement the bold, hi-tech graphic of the Salomon logo.
This release marks the first MM6 Maison Margiela x Salomon collection this year, with major attention first being brought to the collaborators upon Rihanna wearing the $360 pair “MM6 Maison Margiela x Salomon Low Cross” sneakers at the 2023 Super Bowl, which in turn sparked a viral fashion moment. The remainder of 2023 saw more collaborations between the two brands, which included co-collaborative drops with Palace, Sandy Liang, Dover Street Market and more.
The MM6 Maison Margiela x Salomon X-Alp will be available from June 6th on both MM6 Maison Margiela and Salomon’s e-commerce site, selected MM6 and Salomon Stores, as well as in selected multi-brand stores.
