Nike has gone all out on its 30th anniversary celebration for the Air Max 95, releasing the sneaker with Big Bubble construction in numerous colorways including the original “Neon” edition, as well as fan-favorites “Mandarin,” “Pink Foam” and more.
Joining the prolific output soon will be the Nike Air Max 95 Big Bubble “Sundial,” a brand-new colorway with a subtle gradient that’s already popped up in Australia. While the majority of the sneaker is clad in blacks and greys, an orange and pink gradient is used for the Swoosh, tongue Air Max branding and striping on the lace loops. Pink is then used for the Air units, and mismatched insoles make further use of the same colors.
The outpouring of Big Bubble Air Max 95s brings the proportions of its Air units close to those of the sneaker’s original run 30 years ago. Over time, and after Nike stopped using a greenhouse gas to fill the bubbles, the Air units became noticeably smaller on Retro release — the sort of detail that drives many collectors crazy.
Big Bubbles have also come back to the Air Max 1, as only the earliest run of the sneaker in 1987 featured larger Air units. Nike had to shrink them because of durability issues in cold weather, but in 2023 the Swoosh was able to make them larger once again without any trouble.
Later this year, Nike’s spotlight on the Air Max 95 will continue with a “Yu-Gi-Oh” collaboration as an homage to a storyline from a 1997 manga involving an obvious duplicate of the sneaker. A Corteiz “Honey Black” collaboration also generated a great deal of buzz. And after the “Neon” drop was reportedly limited to just 10,000 pairs with its Big Bubble, it’s slated to return with wider availability next year.
The Nike Air Max 95 Big Bubble “Sundial” already released through JD Sports Australia and should become more widely available quite soon. Pricing is set at $180.
