Nike’s Higher-End, Max-Cushioned Vomero Running Shoe Has Leaked

The Nike Vomero Plus is expected to release this summer and is intended for long, easy runs.

Nike hit the reset button its road running slate last fall, simplifying its lineup with three franchises each offering a clear purpose. The Pegasus is tailored to responsive cushioning, the Structure to support, and the Vomero to maximum cushioning. All three of these lines will cary a flagship version in addition to Plus and Premium models, and the first look at the Vomero Plus has now leaked.

The Nike Vomero Plus will sit in the middle ground of the max-cushioned running shoes and is expected to release this summer. Technical specs have yet to be revealed, but the model carries full-length ZoomX cushioning in its midsole with what appears to be an even higher stack height than the Vomero 18. A more dynamic upper, possibly Flyknit, carries a wavy pattern that may bring to mind the Air Max 97, and six colorways have surfaced: pink, orange, white/teal, all-white, volt/white and purple/blue.

Having debuted in February, the Vomero 18 features a mix of ZoomX and ReactX foam, the latter of which sits directly underfoot. Its stack height is the highest-ever confirmed in the Vomero franchise thus far, and the podded outsole is intended to smoothen the transition from heel to toe.

The Pegasus franchise is the only to be filled out with its flagship, Plus and Premium editions all hitting the market. For an idea of the differences to expect, the $140 Pegasus 41 features ReactX foam, a Zoom Air unit and engineered mesh upper while the $180 Pegasus Pus opts for ZoomX cushioning and a Flyknit upper.

“We know runners just want a shoe that feels right for their daily runs. They don’t want to overthink it,” Marian Dougherty, senior director of Running Footwear Product, said in a press release announcing the Nike Running revamp. “That’s why we have streamlined our offerings and created clear distinction between them so runners can easily find what they need. It’s all about finding that sweet spot so runners can just lace up and hit the road.”

The Nike Vomero Plus will release sometime this summer through Nike’s website and select third-party retailers. Pricing is set at $180.
