Throughout his sneaker collaborations, Sean Wotherspoon has emphasized vegan materials just as much as colorful profiles. His next release is no exception, as an Adidas Gazelle made out of mushroom leather will release in extremely limited quantities.
The blue, orange, and pink low-top will arrive as a sister shoe of sorts to a hemp-derived Gazelle Wotherspoon teased earlier in the year. Made in collaboration with Mylo, a company that already has a history of lending its mushroom leather to Adidas, the sneaker features a cork insole for more sustainable construction. A translucent rubber outsole in gum bears visible imperfections, while the Wotherspoon logo that’s been used throughout his Adidas collaborations also takes its regular place on the heel.
In May, Wotherspoon released another pair of Gazelles made out of corduroy and featuring an all-over floral print. The model dates back to the ’60s as a track and field trainer, and it’s enjoyed a recent resurgence driven in part by a trickle-down effect from the Samba. Turned off by the saturation of the Samba, many have turned to the Gazelle for its similar qualities as a simple, archival low-top.
Wotherspoon has also been involved recently in a number of collaborations on the Orketro, a newer ’90s-inspired silhouette that taps into the market for more technical running shoes. His most famous collaboration to date, though, is his first, the Nike Air Max 1/97 from 2018.
The Sean Wotherspoon x Mylo x Adidas Gazelle Indoor “Mushroom Leather” will release Oct. 13 through Adidas’ Confirmed app with only 200 pairs going on sale. Each pair will be individually numbered, as confirmed by Wotherspoon himself, and sizing is also quite limited with only a US mens 5, 8, 9, 10.5, 11.5 and 14.5 going up for sale. Pricing is set at $180.
